Everyone really gets a big kick out of the nature, beach, and shoreline here on the island. The area is so clean and uncluttered, and beach parks do not get overly packed with visitors. It is free and legal to collect expired shells, but you cannot take live shells with the critters still inside. As you cruise down the shore, keep your eyes aware of the water and you will see dolphins popping out of the water close by.

Our Shoreline is King-Tops So many shells wash ashore in January and February on Sanibel that many visitors come here just for that. That tells you a bit on the traditions here, vacations to Sanibel just for the shelling!
The Famous Sanibel Stoop! Remember that the big shelling season is in the winter when the winds pile in from the Northwest. Low tide is another key factor to finding the best shells.
